Brickwork is the wall people can see and the work they cannot. Footings, the wall and pointing are different stages, and the chosen brick moves the material cost.

Built Specifically for UK Bricklaying Professionals

  • Stages of the Build: Price the footings, the brickwork up to damp-proof course, and the brickwork up to plate level separately.
  • Labour Only or Supply: Leave the bricks off when the job is labour only, and show them when you are supplying them.
  • Repointing: Price raking out, mortar and area apart from new work, because it takes longer.
  • Ground & Waiting Time: Agree a change in the ground, or time spent waiting on another trade, before you build on it.

Quote the wall or the extension stage before you order bricks. Invoice that stage when it is topped out or pointed, not as one sum for the whole build unless that is truly what you agreed. Labour-only jobs leave the bricks off.

Tick Add VAT when you are supplying bricks at a net price and you are VAT registered. The PDF adds 20% on top of labour and materials. A labour-only gang that is not registered leaves the box off. Your document is not stored.

What to include on a quote for UK bricklayers

Brickwork is the face and the footing. These lines separate them on a garden wall.

  • Footing and foundation for the garden wall. The work they cannot see, priced on its own.
  • Facing bricks, supply, including the pier and the coping. Left off entirely if the job is labour only.
  • Labour to lay and point. Days, separate from the brick price.

Frequently asked questions

Can a bricklayer use this without an account?
Yes. Build the quote or the invoice for the wall, the extension or the pointing, and download the PDF. No limit, and your document is not stored.
How is VAT added when the bricks are mine to supply?
Type the net brick price and the net labour, then tick Add VAT if you are registered. The PDF adds 20%. If the customer is supplying the bricks, leave that line off and only VAT the labour if you charge VAT on labour.
Is a brick price per thousand a quote or an estimate?
It is a quote when the footing, the length and the bond are measured. It is an estimate when the ground is untested or the brick is not chosen. This form prints the heading you pick. It does not turn a guess into a fixed price.
How do I price repointing against new brickwork?
As its own job. Raking out takes longer than laying new, and the area matters. A line that says brickwork for both will be read as the cheaper of the two.
